Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II (Operations)

Relativity Space is building rockets and the manufacturing infrastructure to deliver payloads to orbit; the Stennis team designs, builds, and operates large outdoor rocket engine test stands that validate Terran R stages and propulsion components. The company is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II to design, integrate, and maintain acquisition hardware, control systems, sensors, and cameras used on the Stennis test stands and to collaborate with engineers and technicians to execute test programs safely and reliably.

Skills

  • PLC programming and control systems experience (Beckhoff familiarity a plus)
  • Data acquisition and sensor integration (pressure, RTD/thermocouple, strain gage, accelerometer)
  • Camera integration (IP, SDI, CoaXPress) and time-synchronized DAQ
  • Electrical system design for field and hazardous environments
  • Familiarity with industrial communications: Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar for schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Hands-on test stand experience, commissioning, and field troubleshooting
  • Ability to obtain US government background check clearance for on-site work

Responsibilities

  • Design, integrate, and test data acquisition hardware, instrumentation, and camera systems for rocket engine test stands
  • Develop and maintain PLC-based control logic (Beckhoff or similar) and SCADA interfaces
  • Integrate pressure, temperature, flow, level, accelerometers, solenoid valves, VFDs, heaters, and other sensors/actuators
  • Design and maintain electrical systems for hazardous areas per applicable standards
  • Commission, troubleshoot, and support instrumentation and controls during test operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and technician teams to deliver projects on schedule
  • Document system designs, wiring, schematics, and test procedures; support configuration management and change control

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated electrical engineering fundamentals and practical application experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience in instrumentation, controls, or related field
