Propulsion Engineer SRM

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator developing reusable, air‑launched hypersonic testbeds to deliver flight data for rapid technology deployment and national security applications. We are seeking a Staff‑level Propulsion Engineer to lead design, integration, testing, and maintenance of rocket propulsion systems—ideal candidates will have solid rocket motor component design experience and hands‑on component/subsystem test background.

Skills

  • Experience with solid rocket motor design, mechanical design, or structural engineering
  • Hands‑on component or assembly level mechanical/fluid testing and rocket testing experience
  • Stress/structural analysis experience
  • Proficient 3D CAD modeling of parts and assemblies
  • Experience with electrical/instrumentation for test setups is a plus
  • Clear, technical communication to varied audiences
  • Self‑starter able to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop, build, and test propulsion flight and ground hardware
  • Perform structural, fluid, and thermal analysis of components and assemblies
  • Create and release component and assembly drawings for flight and ground test hardware
  • Create and maintain work instructions for installing flight hardware
  • Support mechanics during integration of components and assemblies onto vehicles and ground systems
  • Order materials and components and maintain inventory tracking for critical propulsion parts
  • Test propulsion components and assemblies to prepare for integrated subsystem testing
  • Develop engineering tools and test fixtures as needed
  • Manage engineering release schedule in coordination with shop planning
  • Review and release drawings, work instructions, and analysis reports
  • Provide regular, comprehensive communication to the Propulsion Lead
  • Contribute to integration of complex aerospace systems while demonstrating integrity and responsibility

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering (required)
  • 10–20 years engineering experience (Staff‑level) or equivalent combination of education and experience
