We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Human Resources professional to serve in dual capacities as a People Business Partner and a member of our Talent Management team. This role is located at our Durham, North Carolina site (referred to as RTP), which houses our state-of-the-art laboratory. This blended role is ideal for an HR professional who thrives across a wide variety of HR functions.

In this role, you will partner closely with leaders and employees across multiple functions to provide proactive, day-to-day HR support. You will serve as the on-the-ground People Business Partner (PBP), collaborating closely with functional PBPs to align the local execution of HR initiatives with broader people strategies.

In parallel, you will be a key member of the Talent Management and Experience team, driving culture-forward initiatives that bring our values to life through onboarding, employee and leadership training, engagement efforts, and community-building programs that foster connections across the site.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role, ideal for an HR professional who thrives in both strategic and hands-on work—balancing operational excellence with culture and engagement impact. This role requires on-site presence at least four days per week, with occasional travel to our Northern California headquarters.

You will work on-site full-time (5-days a week) at our office located in Durham, North Carolina.

Responsibilities:
People Business Partnering:

  • Act as the primary liaison between PBPs supporting functional leadership and employees at our RTP site, ensuring consistent two-way communication, alignment of programs to local needs, and effective execution.

  • Partner with functional PBPs to localize training content, employee and leadership programs, and talent frameworks to meet the unique needs of RTP employees and managers.

  • Provide proactive coaching and guidance to managers to strengthen leadership effectiveness and team performance.

  • Partner with RTP site leadership, including the People Business Partner Director, to foster a positive, high-performing, and values-driven workplace culture.

  • Drive execution of annual HR cycles, including talent reviews, compensation planning, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Guide leaders through employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation. Partner with functional PBPs to escalate complex cases and ensure alignment with company-wide practices and local compliance requirements.

Employee Development & Talent Experience:

  • Partner with the Talent Management team to deliver employee and leadership development programs, ensuring content is relevant and tailored for RTP employees at all levels.

  • Lead an engaging, values-aligned new hire onboarding program that fosters connection and belonging from day one.

  • Serve as a culture ambassador for the RTP site, activating company values through in-person experiences, events, and communication moments.

  • Partner with the Head of Culture, Community & Engagement to implement employee experience strategies, establish feedback loops, and drive progress on site-specific culture and engagement goals.

  • Manage internal culture communications (digital signage, Slack, newsletters) to amplify key initiatives and stories that strengthen connection.

  • Support action planning and implementation stemming from employee listening tools (e.g., Voice of GRAIL survey).

These responsibilities summarize the role’s primary responsibilities and are not an exhaustive list. They may change at the company’s discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field with 8 + years of relevant human resources experience; or a Master’s degree with 5 + years of relevant experience.

  • Proven experience implementing leadership development and employee engagement strategies.

  • Hands-on experience with WorkDay is highly preferred.

  • Strong consulting, coaching, and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence leaders at all levels.

  • Experience in high-growth, fast-paced industries such as life sciences, technology, or healthcare.

  • Strong understanding of HR practices and employment law.

  • Excellent communication and project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities with precision and professionalism.

  • High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and a deep passion for culture-building and belonging.

  • An energetic presence and the ability to foster connection both in person and virtually.
