Staff Systems Design Engineer (Remote)
Skills
- Expertise in React and React Native
- Proven experience building and scaling design systems and component libraries
- Strong understanding of tokens, theming, and design-to-code pipelines (Figma integration)
- Experience with CI/CD for front-end distribution and package management
- Familiarity with visual regression testing and Storybook or similar tools
- Deep design craft knowledge: typography, motion, interaction, and visual systems
- Accessibility best practices (e.g., React Aria) and inclusive design
- Experience integrating AI-assisted tooling into design and engineering workflows
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the multi-platform design system architecture, governance, and roadmap for web and mobile.
- Design and implement core components, APIs, variants, and composition patterns with a focus on usability and scalability.
- Drive adoption and migration of legacy UI to the system, prioritizing critical product surfaces like CTAs and checkout flows.
- Partner with Engineering on CI/CD, token systems, distribution infrastructure, and enforcement mechanisms (linting, token constraints).
- Establish and maintain a tool-to-code pipeline (Figma, design tools, Builder/Gemini/AI workflows) to prevent design–code drift.
- Implement automated quality systems including visual regression testing and continuous auditing for visual and interaction quality.
- Ensure accessibility standards (React Aria) and high visual/motion fidelity across components and states.
- Improve developer experience through intuitive component APIs and clear documentation.
- Introduce and standardize AI-assisted workflows and structure components for AI-friendly generation.
- Mentor designers and engineers and produce clear documentation and governance materials for cross-functional teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, HCI, or related field OR equivalent practical experience
- Continued professional experience or certifications in front-end engineering or design systems preferred
