Skills
- 6+ years backend software engineering experience
- Strong Java and Spring Boot proficiency
- Production experience with Apache Kafka or comparable streaming systems
- Solid distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, fault tolerance, delivery semantics)
- AWS experience and familiarity with containerized/Kubernetes deployments
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform)
- Protobuf and gRPC familiarity and schema evolution practices
- Observability and incident response (DataDog, Prometheus, PagerDuty)
- AI-native working style: prompting, agent orchestration, critical validation
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate streaming services using Kafka, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud Stream.
- Develop and manage Kafka connectors and SMT chains for data integration (DynamoDB, S3, NSQ, custom sinks/sources).
- Own schema management across Protobuf and Schema Registry, including multi-language codegen and publishing pipelines.
- Drive platform migrations (MSK → Confluent Cloud, NSQ → Kafka) and implement dual-cluster consumer patterns and cutover playbooks.
- Write and maintain infrastructure as code (Terraform), ship through CI/CD, and participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
- Build monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling (DataDog, PagerDuty, Prometheus) for high availability and reliability.
- Work AI-natively: run multiple agents in parallel, author prompts and evals, review agent output critically, and improve team AI practices.
- Mentor teammates, raise technical standards, and contribute to API design, data contracts, and integration patterns.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience (or higher)
- Relevant on-the-job experience in distributed systems and infra if degree not held
