Job Duties: Responsible for shaping and executing the long-term strategy of our web platform, ensuring it delivers scalable, secure, and high-performing digital experiences. This role provides organizational leadership across multiple teams, guiding technical direction, innovation, and platform evolution. The Senior Director of Engineering – Web Platform fosters collaboration across product, engineering, and business partners to align initiatives with company strategy, optimize system performance, and drive customer value. By championing build principles, engineering excellence, and a culture of adaptability, this leader ensures the web platform remains a foundation for growth and innovation. This role leverages expertise in technology to meticulously select the latest technologies, architectural frameworks, and design patterns for implementation. This role involves providing visionary leadership and architectural direction to a dedicated team of engineers tasked with developing web applications that connect with our families. Specifically, the Senior Director of Engineering – Web Platform will be responsible for the following:
· Provide vision and strategic leadership for the Web Platform organization, defining long-term technical strategy, platform architecture, and innovation roadmap that supports company-wide business objectives.
· Lead through leaders by mentoring and guiding Directors, Managers, and Senior Engineers across multiple teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
· Champion platform scalability, reliability, and performance, ensuring our systems and infrastructure are designed to support growth, efficiency, and evolving customer needs.
· Drive cross-functional alignment by partnering with senior leaders across Product, Design, Data, and other technology domains to set priorities, shape requirements, and deliver impactful outcomes.
· Foster a culture of engineering excellence by embedding APFM Build Principles into daily execution, driving quality, automation, security, and maintainability across the platform.
· Promote experimentation and innovation, encouraging teams to evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proofs of concept, and drive adoption of solutions that improve developer velocity and customer experience.
· Develop organizational talent, ensuring managers and technical leaders have clear growth paths, while actively sponsoring leadership development, career progression, and succession planning across the organization.
· Recruit, retain, and inspire top engineering talent, scaling the Web Platform team with diverse perspectives and high technical standards.
· Measure impact and outcomes, establishing clear success metrics for the platform and ensuring initiatives are consistently aligned with customer value, business goals, and operational excellence.
· Act as a thought leader, representing Web Platform strategy and technical direction at the executive level and influencing company-wide technology and product decisions.

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, plus 3 years of experience working on or managing high performance web teams, preferably developers, QA engineers, and UX designers in a combined organization, including:
· 3 years of experience leading teams developing modern, high traffic websites and services using React, Next.js and JavaScript / Typescript;
· 3 years of experience working with SEO, CWV, and strategies for driving organic traffic growth;
· 3 years of experience practicing contemporary software development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, XP, etc. with a clear focus on app security, performance & maintainability;
· 3 years of experience developing & instilling a culture of broad product ownership;
· 3 years of experience working with API architecture including REST and GraphQL;
· 3 years of experience working with AWS Services, Docker Containers, and CI/CD;
· 3 years of experience working with Advertising and Analytics integrations;
· 3 years of experience with database technologies like: MySQL / PostgreSQL / MongoDB / Elasticsearch;
· 3 years of experience with Google Core Web Vitals; and
· 3 years of experience with organic SEO concepts and paid marketing campaigns (SEM).
Experience may be gained concurrently.
Note: The expected base pay range for this position is $223,642 - $230,000 per year.
