This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payroll and benefits operations within a fast-growing, global technology environment. You will oversee multi-state payroll execution and U.S. employee benefits administration, ensuring employees are paid correctly and benefits are managed in line with regulatory requirements. The position requires strong technical payroll expertise combined with deep knowledge of U.S. employment laws and benefits structures. You will collaborate closely with People Operations, Finance, and external vendors to support scalable, compliant, and employee-focused processes. This is a highly detail-oriented and operationally impactful role where accuracy and compliance are essential to business continuity. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and mission-driven, with strong emphasis on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will manage end-to-end payroll and benefits operations while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing bi-weekly multi-state payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with wage and hour laws.
  • Reviewing payroll inputs, timecards, adjustments, off-cycle payments, and garnishments to ensure data integrity.
  • Partnering with Finance on payroll reporting, reconciliations, audits, and general ledger alignment.
  • Overseeing payroll tax compliance, including monitoring regulatory changes, managing tax accounts, and resolving notices or discrepancies.
  • Administering U.S. employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, and voluntary offerings, ensuring accurate enrollment and eligibility management.
  • Supporting open enrollment cycles and working with brokers and vendors to ensure smooth benefits administration.
  • Maintaining compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA) and ensuring accuracy of benefits documentation and HRIS integrations.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries, providing guidance to employees and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring multi-state compliance requirements and identifying risks or process gaps.
  • Supporting HR compliance reporting (e.g., EEO-1, BLS filings) and internal audits.
  • Driving continuous improvement of payroll and benefits processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and employee experience.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented payroll and benefits professional with strong technical expertise and a deep understanding of U.S. compliance requirements. You should be analytical, organized, and confident working in complex, regulated environments. Key qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of experience in multi-state payroll administration and U.S. employee benefits management.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, statutory filings, and federal/state/local regulations.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws, wage and hour requirements, and benefits structures.
  • Experience working with HRIS or payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now or similar preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll and benefits topics clearly.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive employee data.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Accounting, or related field (preferred).
  • Certifications such as CPP, FPC, PHR, or SHRM-CP are a plus.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of $60,000 – $75,000 + bonus.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums.
  • 401(k) with 100% match up to 4% and immediate vesting.
  • Generous PTO policy with additional tenure-based increases and paid sabbaticals.
  • Annual professional development reimbursement ($2,500).
  • Remote work support including home office and internet stipends.
  • Wellness benefits including gym reimbursement and wellness subscriptions.
  • Additional perks supporting work-life balance and employee wellbeing.
