- Hands-on PVD/sputtering process development and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of vacuum systems and plasma/sputtering physics
- Thin-film characterization (SEM, TEM, XRD, SIMS, optical/electrical)
- Statistical process control (SPC), DOE, and yield improvement methods
- Experience with cleanroom manufacturing and production equipment
- Data analysis and scripting (Python, R, SQL) and simulation tools (e.g., SIMTRA)
- Project management and cross-functional manufacturing ramp experience
Responsibilities
- Design, qualify, and optimize DC/RF magnetron sputtering processes for SHJ front/back contacts and TCO layers (e.g., ITO).
- Lead process development for new PVD toolsets and materials, including target management and deposition rate optimization.
- Develop experiments using DOE and statistical methods to diagnose and correct manufacturing problems and improve yields.
- Perform defect characterization and root cause analysis using thin-film and microstructure tools.
- Own equipment commissioning, machine activation, and ramp-up with engineers and technicians.
- Define project plans, budgets, and cost/benefit analyses for new processes and equipment.
- Prepare technical design review content and take ownership of yield, uptime, and cost outcomes for the solar factory.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (required)
- Master's or Ph.D. in materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or related STEM field (preferred)
