Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are looking for a technical expert and proven leader with experience in flight vehicle fluid systems to lead the design, development, and testing of reaction control systems and heat exchangers for a launch vehicle upper stage. You will provide guidance and direction in varying levels of the design cycle, which may include conceptual design, requirements definition, thermo-fluid modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, test and mission support. You will use creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions to solve complex problems with high pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight, while demonstrating passion for our mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers to implement product definition, design, and production of reaction control and heat exchanger fluid subsystems
  • Deliver completed designs using 3D CAD (Creo preferred), 2D and 3D drawings per ASME Y14.5 GD&T along with detailed analysis reports using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (ANSYS preferred)
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure your systems work together, resolving issues with calculated risk
  • Provide mentorship on fluid system and component design best practices, and serve as a technical peer reviewer of design and test proposals
  • Build and manage project plans including cost, schedule and risk management to ensure timely delivery
  • Oversee component and system level testing, verification, and data analysis as part of development, qualification and hardware acceptance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience leading spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design or test
  • Expertise in design and development of reaction control systems, heat exchangers, or cryogenic systems
  • Solid understanding of propulsion and fluid components such as valves, nozzles, and fittings
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and direct metal laser sintering
  • Working knowledge of material selection and treatments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in an engineering field
  • Experience with hydrogen and oxygen systems
