Manager, Utilities Engineering and Operations (Starlink)

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on other planets and operates high-reliability manufacturing sites to support that mission. The Manager, Utilities Engineering and Operations will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all site utility systems at the Bastrop manufacturing campus to ensure continuous 24/7 production support.

Skills

  • Proven leadership of multi-discipline teams in 24/7 industrial operations
  • Deep knowledge of power generation and distribution systems
  • Experience with industrial water and wastewater systems
  • Familiarity with natural gas infrastructure and safety systems
  • Experience with SCADA/BMS and automated monitoring platforms
  • Strong project management for multi-million-dollar capital projects
  • Ability to read and create P&IDs and electrical single-line drawings
  • Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance programs
  • Regulatory and environmental permitting experience
  • Root cause analysis and reliability improvement skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a multidisciplinary utilities team of engineers, operators, technicians, and maintenance staff supporting 24/7 operations.
  • Own performance and availability of major utility systems: power generation/distribution, industrial water, cooling, wastewater, and natural gas infrastructure.
  • Drive strategic utility capacity planning and deliver capital projects from design through commissioning and integration with production.
  • Establish and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to maximize uptime.
  • Manage operating budgets, utility cost forecasting, energy/water conservation initiatives, and vendor/service contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with manufacturing, production engineering, EHS, and facilities projects to anticipate demand and resolve issues rapidly.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for utility incidents and implement lessons learned sitewide.
  • Maintain rigorous safety practices in hazardous industrial environments and ensure on-call emergency readiness.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (P&IDs, single-line diagrams, SOPs) and performance metrics.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental engineering or related engineering discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree or professional licensing is a plus
