We’re seeking a Director of Engineering to lead engineering at MO. We work on mission-critical systems that affect millions of citizens, and you will own engineering strategy and delivery maturity across all of MO’s client engagements. You will oversee the execution of existing federal contracts, manage and mentor the engineering team, and partner with other MO leaders to win new business.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality software projects.
Manage a diverse team of ~15 software leads, engineers, and data scientists, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and professional development
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes growth, creativity, and open communication
Mentor engineers and technical leads, developing new leaders and strengthening system design, documentation, and delivery discipline
Define, own, and guide adherence to engineering standards and delivery practices that support quality, compliance, and reliability
Guide technical decision-making and resolve engineering tradeoffs in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
For major new endeavors with clients:
Guide end-to-end technical solution designs to influence the shape and delivery of client work
Support program leads in the translation of stakeholder requirements into executable architectures
Ensure staff are building and designing solutions that meet security, compliance, and regulatory standards (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST, Section 508, etc., as applicable) while maintaining an agile, modern development culture
Serve as a senior technical expert in client meetings, proposals, and technical reviews
Lead the development and review of winning technical approaches for RFPs, RFIs, and client pitches
Identify opportunities to expand engagements through thoughtful, client-centered solutions
Balance innovation with practicality in regulated, risk-aware environments
10+ years in software engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or management role
Experience leading engineering teams in federal government contracting, public-sector consulting, or regulated industries
Strong background in solutions architecture and system design for client-facing programs
Ability to lead across multiple projects with varying scopes, timelines, and constraints
Comfort operating in compliance-heavy environments with high expectations for documentation and rigor
Clear, confident communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Leadership style grounded in collaboration, mentorship, and delivery excellence
Our Federal contracts require that you be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for employment and all work must be conducted within the U.S.
MO is a fully remote company, but if you aren’t based near Washington D.C. then travel could be necessary ~25% of the time to meet with Washington D.C. stakeholders
As Head of Engineering, you’ll be central to how we deliver mission-critical work—shaping engineering culture, ensuring solution quality, and helping clients succeed through dependable, well-architected technology. You will also be part of the senior leadership team, contributing to company strategy, growth, and success.

Compensation for this role is an annualized salary range of $190,000 to $225,000, with additional variable and long term incentives.
Candidates in the Washington, DC region are preferred.
