Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform
Skills
- Proven system design and architecture experience for data infrastructure
- Proficiency in Python or Java/Kotlin with strong testing and maintainability practices
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift)
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect) and IaC (Terraform)
- Production experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, or Kinesis)
- Experience with data modeling and transformation frameworks (dbt)
- Built observability and monitoring for data pipelines (freshness, quality, schema drift)
- Experience operating under regulatory and governance constraints
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate self-serve ETL/ELT frameworks for batch and streaming workloads with ownership of reliability and schema evolution
- Drive the technical roadmap for the data platform, evaluating build vs. buy and defining integration patterns and standards
- Partner with Product Engineering, Data Science, and Analytics to define data contracts and onboard new data domains
- Architect and enforce data lineage, schema registry, access controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, PII handling)
- Monitor, alert, debug, and resolve incidents across the data platform; participate in on-call rotation
- Improve platform observability: freshness monitoring, row-level quality checks, schema drift detection, and SLA dashboards
- Raise team technical bar through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Advanced degree desirable but not required
