Somethings is building the first social wellness platform for teens — a place where a teen can form a real relationship with a mentor who gets them, sticks with them, and helps them get better.
25 Million teens in the U.S. are struggling with their mental health. Every one of the thousands of teens who downloads Somethings is struggling. Our job is to make sure they don't just show up — they stay, connect with real humans who care deeply about them, and get the support that they need to thrive.
We're backed by General Catalyst and world-class healthcare + consumer investors, and we're growing like crazy — in 2025 we grew 1100%, and are on track to 5x in 2026.
If you want to be a part of the generationally defining company in mental health, welcome home.
We're looking for a Lead React Engineer to join our small, high-ownership engineering team and help build the core web experiences that power our mentors and ops team.
The work is high agency, high craft, and high impact:
You will directly shape the platform experiences that help teens stay, connect, and genuinely get better.
You won't just "build features." You'll take full ownership of core missions tied directly to our 2026 strategy:
Ship web experiences that feel fast, reliable, and deeply human
Elevate the mentor web experience from "functional and fragmented" to cohesive, elegant, and best-in-class
Build UI that feels as intuitive and polished as the best consumer-grade software
Sweat performance, accessibility, and interaction quality — not just feature delivery
Create mentor-facing features that increase consistency, speed, and connection
Build safety surfaces that proactively detect risk and reduce human error
Improve mentor workflows so they feel empowered, not burdened, by our tools
Build end-to-end features across React, backend services, and APIs
Collaborate closely with design, product, growth, and clinical ops
Run user conversations with mentors and ops staff to deeply understand needs
Maintain a clean, scalable codebase as we grow quickly
You have 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including deep work with React
You have a strong understanding of web app architecture, common design patterns, and performance optimization
You're comfortable with modern web engineering workflows — CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, deployment — and you enjoy improving them
You love building pixel-perfect, fast, and reliable user interfaces across screen sizes
You care deeply about quality and craft, and you're motivated by creating products that real people love using
You're a clear, direct, and thoughtful communicator who collaborates well with others
Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, and modern React patterns (components, hooks, state management)
Experience building and shipping complex, production-grade React web applications
Hands-on experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs, authentication flows, and real-time data (e.g. WebSockets)
Experience with state management libraries such as Zustand, Jotai, Redux, or TanStack Query
Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility (WCAG), and responsive design
Experience with CSS-in-JS or utility-first CSS systems (e.g. Tailwind, styled-components)
Experience using Git, writing unit and integration tests, and working within CI/CD pipelines
Bonus: experience with Next.js, SSR/SSG patterns, or full-stack TypeScript (tRPC, Prisma, etc.)
We're building a culture that blends high performance, deep belonging, and radical clarity:
We care about outcomes, not theatrics
We move quickly and learn constantly
We speak the truth early
We protect focus
We hold a high bar for craft and quality
We're small, intense, collaborative, and mission-driven
We care about each other, and we care about the millions of teens we serve
If you're looking for a place where you can have real ownership and build something that genuinely changes lives, this is it.
