Manufacturing Engineer (Starlink) - job 1 of 4

SpaceX is developing Starlink, the world’s largest satellite broadband system, and is hiring Manufacturing Engineers to scale and improve production of critical Gateway hardware, specifically TWT amplifiers. The role requires hands-on ownership of hardware development and production processes to improve manufacturability, reliability, and cost while working cross-functionally with design, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.

Skills

  • Hands-on hardware design, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes and NPI for complex assemblies
  • Knowledge of materials processing and high-temperature processes (e.g., brazing)
  • Understanding of materials science and solid mechanics fundamentals
  • Ability to run and interpret environmental and performance tests
  • Strong written and oral communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Supplier and vendor interaction to implement process improvements

Responsibilities

  • Design factory layouts and manufacturing processes for rapid, reliable, low-cost production of RF vacuum hardware (TWTA).
  • Develop and document novel manufacturing procedures in collaboration with partner teams.
  • Manage new product introduction and establish production processes for TWTA assemblies.
  • Work with manufacturers and suppliers to implement process improvements that increase reliability and throughput.
  • Provide design-for-manufacturing feedback to design teams to reduce cost and improve reliability.
  • Perform environmental and performance testing to validate designs and demonstrate compliance to requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, lead root-cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of product outcomes through development and production phases.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree in engineering or materials science (preferred)
