Job Description

Looking to ace your upcoming academic year? As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you’ll work on real projects, be part of our collaborative culture, and get the support you need to grow - across two full semesters. Our Internship Program is all about impact, giving you the chance to contribute to meaningful work while building skills that matter. If you’re curious, driven, and excited about media, entertainment, and technology, we provide an environment designed to help you learn and grow every day.

Academic Year Internship Program Details

Program Dates: September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027

Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

Academic Year Recruitment Timeline

April 20: Applications open

May 8: Applications close at 11:59pm ET (we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible – applications may close earlier due to applicant volume!)

Early May – Mid June: First round video interviews   

Mid June – Mid July: Second round interviews  

Throughout July: Selected candidates receive offers

Universal Television Entertainment is responsible for world-class television entertainment. The division programs and markets content across leading entertainment brands Bravo, NBC and Peacock, and produces over 3,000 hours of television annually through Universal Studio Group, the studio business comprised of Universal Television, UCP, Universal International Studios and Universal Television Alternative Studio.

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

  • Entertainment Communications- Unscripted: Support communications efforts by maintaining and updating press lists, preparing for press junkets, monitoring press breaks and compiling clip packets, researching media outlets & contacts, and compiling coverage reports, draft tune-ins, assist with press releases and various writing assignments/research projects 
  • Entertainment Communications- Scripted: The scripted comms team supports PR efforts for all scripted series across NBCU broadcast and cable TV networks. While every day will be different, the scripted comms intern can expect to work with team members across both coasts and on a variety of series. Opportunities include (but are not limited to) helping track big stories surrounding series, research journalists, publications and trends, garner experience in PR-centric writing, attend team and series meetings, and more 
  • Live Events & Specials: Research and share knowledge of current events and trends in the pop culture zeitgeist as they relate to organizational objectives for the team, assist Live Events team with show lead-up materials, day of event needs, and post-show recaps, including collecting content links, competitive outlet research, screen recordings, etc, assist with administrative tasks and projects as needed. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about live events and the hard-work it takes to put a show together behind the scenes  
  • NBC & Peacock Marketing: The NBC & Peacock Marketing team communicates with all departments to build strategies and marketing campaigns for NBC Entertainment programming, in addition to leading promotional activations. The marketing intern will support the brand team throughout these processes, partake in weekly trainings, attend meetings, and assist in daily tasks to understand brand’s role throughout a show’s lifecycle    
  • Social Marketing- Bravo: Intern will Identify moments from our series in advance of airing to be clipped for social use, monitor social sentiment on behalf of the networks, write and edit compelling social media copy and schedule content to be dispersed through Bravo social media  
  • USG Marketing: Ideating and producing social media content for studio and brand handles, supporting the awards team through research, asset management, and administrative duties, updating and tracking department documents for overall campaign timelines, reading scripts and summarizing for brand guidelines, brainstorming and presenting ideas (e.g., campaign opportunities, social media initiatives, marketing creative, etc., and more  
  • USG Publicity: Intern will support the team across series publicity and talent relations. Duties include, but are not limited to brainstorming and presenting ideas for talent relations/gifting, editorial and press opportunities, speaking engagements, etc., assisting publicists during in-person press opportunities (shoots, junkets, interviews, etc.), compiling comprehensive coverage reports for senior executives and flag breaking news, researching media outlets/contacts and maintaining the team’s master contact data base, auditing critical team documents and reviewing releases/external announcements, and more  

Operations & Technology: (O&T) is a $1B operating cash flow ($1.5B FCF) division of NBCUniversal. The group functions as a global shared service within NBCUniversal performing critical functions including Media, Broadcast and Studio Operations & Production, Content Supply Chain, Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Cyber Security. The group operates from numerous locations around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Connecticut, and London.

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

  • West Coast Studio Operations, SO Marketing: Our team delivers marketing, events, and production experiences across the Universal Lot, and this internship provides hands-on exposure to all three areas. Interns will join creative brainstorming sessions, support events at venues like Commons, 1220, sound stages, and the backlot, and assist with marketing, event, and production tasks. Responsibilities include industry research, website updates, digital asset organization, photo/video shoot support, on-site event coordination, and production support such as client data and inventory management.

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns for this specific role is $22.00.

The hourly rate for graduate student interns for this specific role is $25.00.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027). December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program. 
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.  

Desired Characteristics:

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Previous public relations experience is a plus, but not required.   
  • Familiarity with Muck Rack, Cision, and Google Alerts a plus, but not required.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.   
  • Ability to write clean copy quickly and efficiently.   
  • Experience creating content for various social media platforms.    
  • Ability to multitask, highly organized, and strong attention to detail.   

The hourly rate for student interns is $19.00.
