Approves of CEO

Pros

I love working here. The benefits are great, but the culture is unmatched. The people genuinely exhibit the culture. They have a strong dedication to D E & I and they value transparency. They also demonstrate top-down dedication to work life balance which really contributes to a healthy work environment.

Cons

While there are a lot of development opportunities, there's not always growth opportunities. I worry that their compensation is becoming less competitive over time.

We at Biogen are committed to building a culture of inclusion that reflects the communities where we operate and the patients who we serve. We are focused on strengthening our foundation to advance our overall Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy and, most importantly, ensure all our employees feel included.

What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean for us?

  • Diversity – The similarity and differences of background, perspective and experience.
  • Equity – Ensures fair treatment, access, opportunity and advancement.
  • Inclusion – Creating and sustaining a culture where differences are valued and respected.

Our way forward

Our commitment to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion is absolute and across all levels. Our CEO Michel Vounatsos has signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance DE&I within the workplace as well as the Pledge for a More Equitable and Inclusive Life Sciences Industry, an important initiative within our industry.

Through our corporate DE&I efforts, by the end of 2021, we aim to achieve the following:

  • Our overall aspiration is to increase diversity within all our teams globally, acknowledging that not all teams and regions have the same focus areas
  • Increase women in leadership (Director+) by 30% globally, until gender parity
  • Increase Black/African American, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native or two+ races in U.S. in leadership (Manager+) positions by 30% in the U.S. (until we achieve at least U.S. population parity by level and function)
  • Increase veterans, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ representation by 30% in the U.S. (until meeting internal goals)

Employee Resource Networks

Employee Resource Networks (ERNs) are internal groups for employees of shared characteristics, life experiences and interests. These networks provide opportunities to share knowledge, find mentors and receive support, which can be invaluable resources for career development. Employees interested in advancing inclusion are welcome to join any network.

  • AccessAbility (individuals with disabilities, caretakers and/or allies)
  • Biogen Veterans Network
  • Ignite (early career professionals)
  • Mosaic (a multi-cultural network)
  • ReachOut (LGBTQ+ and allies)
  • Women’s Innovation Network (WIN)
  • ourIMPACT (climate, health and equity)

Awards and Recognitions

  • Top 5 Fortune 500 Company on Diversity and Inclusion via Fortune (2021)
  • 100 percent on the 2019 Disability Equality Index (DEI) for the second year in a row
  • DEI Best Places to Work for the third consecutive year
  • ‘Best Place to Work’ for LGBTQ Equality in the U.S. by the Human Rights Campaign for the seventh consecutive year
  • 100% on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2019 Corporate Equity Index

Why Biogen?

You aspire to have your work and expertise matter. To be part of something bigger than any one person. Part of the best team, recognized for relentlessly pursuing a shared mission. Part of a more than 40-year legacy of visionary commitment at the intersection of science and humanity, where uniquely talented people collaborate to solve the unsolvable.

We came to Biogen to make an impact on the most complex and devastating diseases. We stay to create new possibilities and to grow and develop together. We work fearlessly and go beyond because we care deeply about making a difference within ourselves and the world in which we live.

Together, we pioneer. Together, we thrive.

Our Culture

ELEMENTS OF OUR CULTURE

Much like the periodic table of elements documents the building blocks of the universe around us, the Biogen Elements give shape to our company’s culture. They include fundamentals like a pioneering spirit, strong ethics, personal accountability, inclusivity, agility, and an unwavering customer focus. Because we have a unified approach to our individual jobs, because we are one Biogen.

This direction is a celebration — and a reminder — of all that makes us unique — and all that makes us the same.

CUSTOMER FOCUSED

We keep patients, payers and physicians front and center in our daily work and collaborate to solve critical scientific and business challenges. We listen with empathy to respond to current needs and to develop the foresight to anticipate future needs. We drive success through win-win outcomes.

INCLUSIVE

We embrace and leverage differences to foster an inclusive community, both internally and externally. We collaborate across teams, break down siloes and encourage diverse perspectives and backgrounds at all levels to optimize performance. We exhibit mutual respect in all our interactions and assume best intent. We treat everyone with care and dignity.

PIONEERING

We challenge the status quo and experiment to create new possibilities. We take calculated risks and learn from failure. We are resilient and navigate through ambiguity with determination to innovate. We encourage candor to test assumptions and uncover the best ideas. We are open about what we do not know and ask questions to understand.

AGILE

We are decisive and execute with efficiency and discipline. We adapt in response to internal changes and external disruptors. We develop solutions quickly to take advantage of emerging opportunities. We design and implement processes that enable us to operate nimbly and effectively.

ACCOUNTABLE

We set clear, aligned and measurable objectives to drive results. We directly communicate our expectations and define clear roles and responsibilities. We honor our commitments and deliver on our goals. We assume responsibility for both the positive and negative impacts of our actions and decisions.

ETHICAL

We never compromise our integrity. We are committed to sustaining an environment of trust, honesty and transparency while ensuring appropriate confidentiality. We do what we say and say what we mean. We take responsibility for upholding our reputation.

Life at Biogen

Together, We Succeed.

Our mission of pioneering neuroscience and driving innovation to defeat the most complex and devastating diseases is a unique focus within our industry. Our employees are inspired by their ability to have an impact on their careers, one another, society, and the world as we collaborate to pursue groundbreaking medicines. Biogen’s commitment to serve humanity through science further underscores our impact in a field with many unmet medical needs.
