Skills
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
- Experience with CAD and/or FEA tools for thermal-structural analysis
- Ablation and material response modeling experience
- Proficiency in engineering tool development (Excel, MATLAB, and/or Python)
- Clear technical communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel ~10-25% for tests, sites, and supplier/customer engagement
- Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components and assemblies
- Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators
- Develop and validate predictive ablation and erosion models using test data
- Define and support sub-scale material characterization tests for insulators and ablators
- Evaluate, recommend, and qualify ablative materials and thermal protection solutions
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and deliverables for design reviews and stakeholders
- Present analysis findings to peers, customers, and cross-functional teams
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar (required)
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a related field with focus on ablation, reacting flows, or computational combustion (preferred)
