As an Engineering Manager for the Authentication Experience team, you will lead and empower a strong development team that owns the overall experience that surrounds signing in to and unlocking 1Password. This is the first point of entry into the 1Password apps across the board. Our focus is on integrating tightly with our authentication stack to make this a seamless and delightful experience for our customers, which include both business and consumer end users.

You will be responsible for tactical execution by the team, helping to coordinate activities such as cycle planning, design reviews, and project planning. You will also be responsible for hiring and coaching world-class talent for your team.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What we're looking for:

• You have +3 years experience in a role where you were responsible for managing a team of software engineers and everything that comes with it.

• You have significant hands-on development experience (preferably in the app space) and have engineered your way out of many complex, unscoped problems. Having lived the life of a senior developer before, you leverage your own experience to coach and train up the developers on your team.

• You have 1+ years of experience working in the authentication and identity domain.

• You have an understanding of authentication standards and protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, WebAuthn, passkeys, MFA).

• You have successfully coordinated and delivered large scale projects before that touched multiple areas of the business, product, or underlying architecture.

• The ability to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work. You motivate and inspire others. After meeting with you, people get back to their job with more energy. You are a force of positivity and lift people up when they need it.

• You enjoy having the freedom and responsibility to make final decisions on most everything for your team. Handling tough problems gives you energy and you can make the hard decisions even when there isn’t much information to go on.

• You are someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work themselves on technical challenges.

• You are capable of driving the delivery of projects, and creating roadmaps for future work.

Bonus points for:

• Experience managing remote and distributed teams.

• User experience/design background.

• Experience with Kotlin, Swift, Rust, JavaScript, Go, or related languages.

• Work to scope and plan key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team.

• Drive execution with an emphasis on iterations and deliverables, quality, velocity, and communication.

• Provide technical leadership to developers both in your team and across the engineering organization.

• Grow a team of strong engineers to create an inclusive workplace.

• Continue scaling a highly specialized engineering team by working with a team of Engineering Managers to continuously refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes.

USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $192,000 USD and $278,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.

Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $171,000 CAD and $248,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
