Rebar is building the AI operating system for commercial HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing.

Over the past year, our quoting platform has processed tens of thousands of projects across North America, and we’ve doubled revenue in the first six weeks of this year. Our customers include many of the top firms in the industry—some running billion-dollar construction projects on workflows that still look like it’s 1985.

Construction represents ~10% of GDP and remains massively underserved by software. We’re changing that.

We recently raised a $14M Series A from leading construction tech investors and are entering our next phase of growth. We’re building a set of AI-native products that will define how this industry operates.

We’re hiring a Frontend Engineer to help build and scale a real-time, collaborative platform for the field. You’ll join a small, experienced team working on high-performance web applications that support critical workflows in a large, evolving industry.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys crafting thoughtful user experiences, working with modern frontend tools, and growing in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.

Responsibilities

• Feature Development – Contribute to building and shipping product features, with a focus on user experience and interface design

• Code Quality – Write clear, maintainable, and well-tested code, and help improve team standards over time

• Collaboration – Partner closely with engineers and cross-functional teammates to deliver cohesive product experiences

• Performance – Help ensure the application remains fast, responsive, and reliable

• Learning & Growth – Continue developing your skills while contributing to a strong and supportive engineering culture
  
  

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is excited about building modern web applications and contributing to a collaborative team. You don’t need to meet every requirement below—if this role interests you, we encourage you to reach out.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience as a Software Engineer

• Experience working with JavaScript/TypeScript and React (or similar frameworks)

• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and modern styling approaches

• Exposure to state management tools (Redux, Zustand, or similar)

• Experience using Git and collaborating on a team

• An understanding of responsive design and cross-browser behavior

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience with Next.js or similar frameworks

• Familiarity with real-time systems (WebSockets, etc.)

• Exposure to testing tools (Jest, Cypress, Playwright, etc.)

• Awareness of accessibility best practices

• Interest in performance optimization

• Experience working with or contributing to design systems

• Curiosity about UI/UX design

• Experience building collaborative or interactive tools

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: $140K–$170K, depending on experience

This is a full-time, onsite role based in New York City (Flatiron). Being in person helps us collaborate quickly, learn from each other, and build strong working relationships as a team.
