- Familiarity with AWS, JavaScript (React, Next.js), Node.js, Apollo/GraphQL, MySQL, Go, Elasticsearch, PHP/Laravel
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a 40+ engineer organization, including managers and directors, fostering an inclusive culture and strong retention
- Drive ambitious feature delivery, experimentation, and metrics-driven product development
- Define and execute Wirecutter’s technical AI strategy for internal workflows and consumer-facing features
- Design systems and processes to scale for high-traffic events and peak demand
- Modernize development workflows, platforms, and incorporate Times-wide standards where appropriate
- Contribute to engineering strategy, budgeting and P&L conversations
- Partner cross-functionally with product, editorial, and central technology teams to align on solutions and priorities
- Advocate for journalistic independence and translate Wirecutter goals into team objectives
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Advanced degree preferred but not required
