Skills
- Experience characterizing and testing plastics, elastomers, and adhesives.
- Hands-on polymer characterization skills (SEM-EDS, FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, rheometry, microscopy).
- Understanding of adhesive, sealant, coating, and structural plastic specifications and processing.
- Strong failure analysis and root-cause investigation capability.
- Ability to communicate across teams and take ownership of deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Develop, scale-up, qualify, and stabilize thermoset and thermoplastic polymer systems for Starlink satellites and products.
- Guide engineering, production, and supply chain teams on material selection, testing, DFM, application processes, and design allowables.
- Lead root cause failure investigations and act as SME for polymer failure mechanisms with hands-on testing of flight hardware and raw materials.
- Drive innovation and rapid iteration from prototype to volume, perform ROI analyses, production walk-downs, and provide risk foresight in design reviews.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve current and next-generation products and mentor team members on technical problem-solving and escalation.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in materials science, materials engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, or related engineering field (required).
- Master’s degree or PhD in materials or related field (preferred).
