Skills
- Deep technical breadth in at least two of: structures, fluids, data & control systems
- Structural analysis and FEA (NASTRAN/ANSYS), GD&T, weld and fabrication knowledge
- Hydraulic/pneumatic/process piping and pressure system design, familiarity with codes like ASME B31.3
- Instrumentation, data acquisition, PLCs, and real-time control architecture experience
- Project planning, budget management, and schedule tracking for multi-million dollar projects
- Hazard identification and mitigation for structural, pressure, electrical, and control risks
- Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a 20–25 person engineering organization across structures, fluids, and data/control systems, including 2–3 direct-report managers
- Allocate resources, review technical work, and resolve tradeoffs across concurrent structural, fluid, and control projects
- Drive cross-functional integration so structures, fluids, and controls operate seamlessly on test stands
- Translate engineering roadmap into delivered hardware on schedule and on budget, including multi-million dollar project oversight
- Establish and enforce design standards, safety protocols, and quality processes across disciplines
- Spend ~40–50% of time hands-on in the operational test environment reviewing hardware, troubleshooting, and supporting commissioning
- Coordinate with Test Operations, Vehicle Design, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, and Ground Software teams
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent; conduct hiring and performance management
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or related engineering field or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated technical experience in test infrastructure, vehicle development, or complex hardware systems
