- Proven experience leading engineers and developing senior technical talent
- Deep familiarity with high-volume distributed systems and platform engineering
- Hands-on knowledge of Python and AWS-based architectures
- Experience with streaming and messaging tech (Kafka), relational and document stores (Postgres, MongoDB)
- Operational excellence: monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and incident management
- Experience running internal platforms and managing cross-team contracts and priorities
- Strong recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding skills
- Comfort supporting frontend product surfaces (e.g., Flow Builder) even if primarily backend-focused
- Exposure to AI-powered product surfaces is a plus
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow an 8-person engineering team responsible for Flow Builder, campaign send engine, messaging platform, and new channel expansion
- Drive reliability, throughput, and cost-efficiency for high-volume production messaging systems
- Treat the messaging platform as an internal product: set contracts, prioritize requests from consumer teams, and define support expectations
- Own on-call rotation, incident response, blameless postmortems, and continuous reliability improvements
- Collaborate with product, platform, AI, integrations, design, and compliance stakeholders to plan and deliver work
- Perform performance management: 1:1s, feedback, reviews, professional development, and mentorship
- Partner with Staff Engineers to develop technical roadmaps and deliver platform initiatives
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and advocate for top engineering talent
- Establish and improve development, on-call, and incident review processes to maximize operational rigor
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Advanced degree preferred but not required
