Our Story

J.Crew gets you dressed every day, for every occasion.

Since 1983, we’ve been creating classics that feel familiar and refreshingly new, crafted with unbeatable quality and distinctive point of view—it’s no wonder we’ve been in your closet for four decades and counting.

Today, we continue to do the classics our way, inspiring not only how you shop but how you define your personal style. Our commitment runs deeper than just making great clothes—we’re proud of our role in getting you dressed with confidence, character, and celebrating a distinctly American sensibility that makes us who we are.

Our dedication to Diversity, Equity, Belonging & Sustainability has been celebrated with industry recognition, reflecting our commitment to fostering an inclusive and sustainable workplace.

The Role & Purpose:

The Technical Designer partners closely with Design, Production, and Merchandising teams to bring product concepts to life through precise fit, construction, and technical execution. This role ensures garments meet brand standards from initial development through bulk production, contributing to both product quality and overall business success. We welcome candidates with diverse paths and experiences who bring strong technical expertise and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical development process for Women’s Knits/Sweaters from initial concept through bulk production (TOP).

  • Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, and Production teams to achieve intended fit, construction, and aesthetic goals.

  • Evaluate garments on live models, identify fit issues, and provide actionable solutions to improve product performance.

  • Create and maintain detailed technical packages, ensuring accuracy in specs, construction details, and updates across multiple categories.

  • Manage sample tracking, fittings, and approvals, ensuring all key milestones and deadlines (including bulk and photo approvals) are met.

  • Communicate clearly with factory partners, providing detailed written feedback, technical sketches, and visual references to support execution.

  • Maintain organized technical records, sample history, and documentation to support consistency and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a technical designer

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, and Flex PLM

  • Deep understanding of yarn types, gauges, stitch formations, and knit construction

  • Able to manage multiple styles across seasons in a fast‑paced environment

  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, draping and technical sketching.

  • Understanding of fabric properties and how they impact fit and performance.

  • Experience managing fittings independently and driving the fit approval process.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience working with PLM systems

  • Familiarity with factory processes and machinery across domestic and international production.

  • Knowledge of J. Crew brand standards and product expectations.

We welcome you to apply, even if you don't check all the boxes. Our passion is scouting life-long learners who are driven by curiosity, and who feel connected to our brands and share our desire to make an impact. We’re always seeking bright new talent who leverage their unique experiences to discover, grow and evolve with our teams.
