Internet Backyard is building a compute economy.
We’re looking for a Member of Technical Staff specialized in product design who is deeply obsessed with the billings, pricing and payment systems of compute market and wants to turn first-principles thinking into real, working systems.
We’re well-funded and only hire past and future founders.
We’re early, small, and building in person in San Francisco.
We move fast and expect the same from the people who join us.
This is not a pure design role.
You’ll operate at the intersection of product design, frontend engineering, and company building. You’ll help define how Internet Backyard looks, feels, and works, and you’ll take ideas from rough concept to shipped product.
This role is for someone with exceptional taste, strong product instincts, and the ability to turn design into reality. You should be excited to work in code, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by the chance to shape foundational experiences at an early-stage company.
Design and ship product experiences end to end, from early concepts to polished implementation
Work closely with the founders on product direction, interaction design, and visual quality
Turn rough ideas into clear, usable, high-quality product experiences quickly
Prototype, build, and iterate on UI using Figma and our frontend stack
Help define the visual and interaction language of the product as it evolves
Build internal tools, workflows, and supporting interfaces as needed
Make strong decisions quickly, take smart risks, and improve the product through rapid iteration
Raise the bar for craft, usability, and clarity across everything we ship
Must haves:
Exceptional product and UI taste. We care more about the quality of your work, judgment, and standards than any specific number of years.
You are a real design engineer. You can take a product idea from concept to polished implementation and move fluidly between design and code.
Strong experience building production-quality frontend products with modern web tools. You should be comfortable in our stack: TypeScript, React, Tailwind CSS, and modern frontend application tooling.
Strong proficiency in Figma. You should be able to explore ideas quickly, create polished product direction, and communicate clearly through frames, flows, and prototypes.
Strong product instincts. You care deeply about how things feel to use, not just how they look, and you know how to make interfaces clear, fast, and intuitive.
A high bar for quality and craft, with real attention to detail across visual design, interaction design, responsiveness, accessibility, and performance.
Comfort working in a fast-moving, early-stage environment with limited structure. You can bring clarity to ambiguity and make progress without waiting for perfect direction.
A high degree of ownership and autonomy. You can scope your own work, make strong decisions, and push projects forward end to end.
Low ego, high curiosity, and strong adaptability. We care a lot about people who learn quickly, embrace new tools, and thrive when the problem is evolving.
Strong communication and collaboration skills. You can work closely with founders and engineers, explain your thinking clearly, and use feedback to sharpen the product.
Comfort using AI tools as part of your workflow to explore ideas, move faster, and increase leverage.
Bonus if you:
Have experience working on high-craft consumer or prosumer product experiences
Have a strong understanding of typography, layout, motion, and visual systems
Have built design systems, reusable component libraries, or foundational UI primitives
Have experience designing interfaces for AI-powered products or AI-native workflows
Have worked closely with founders, product teams, or engineering teams in early-stage environments
You ship, not just design
You move fast without losing taste
You simplify instead of overcomplicating
You take ownership without being asked
You care about the details
You learn quickly and adapt as the problem changes
