About BreakAway Data:
BreakAway Data is revolutionizing sports performance by connecting athletes with their own data story. We aggregate, visualize, and analyze fitness, performance, and health data to help both professional and aspiring athletes make smarter decisions and reach their full potential. Our platform is already being used by the NBA, ATP, NWSLPA and we're just getting started.
BreakAway Data is at an inflection point. We've built a proven model for delivering live sports analytics at tournaments and now we're scaling it fast. Over the next two years, we're committed to staffing hundreds of games, expanding into new markets, and evolving our data collection capabilities with cutting-edge technology.
We're looking for a Field Operations Manager who can do two things simultaneously: run a tight ship today, and architect the engine that gets us to 10x tomorrow.
This is not a pure logistics role. We need a builder — someone who sees operational excellence as a foundation for business growth, not an end in itself. You'll own the full delivery of our live tournament programs, lead our talent pipeline, and play an active role in shaping how we sell and scale this business into a broader market.
You'll work directly with BreakAway Data's leadership team with significant autonomy and real ownership of how this part of the business evolves.
Plan and execute all operational requirements for BreakAway Data's live tournament activations, across a rapidly growing national and international calendar
Serve as the on-site lead at events, ensuring all statistical and support workflows run smoothly and on schedule
Build and maintain tournament runbooks, staffing rosters, and contingency plans that can scale to hundreds of games over the next two years
Coordinate with venue, league, and client contacts ahead of and during each event
Troubleshoot in real time, holding quality high under pressure, at volume
Identify and drive operational efficiencies that allow us to deliver more games with greater consistency and lower friction
Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies including product UI/UX, AI, and computer vision solutions to improve data collection accuracy, reduce manual overhead, and elevate our product
Build scalable systems for scheduling, communications, quality control, and post-event reporting
Partner with the product and analytics teams to close the loop between what happens on the field and how it improves our offerings
Own the end-to-end intern and staff recruitment process: sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
Design, iterate on, and maintain training programs and quality benchmarks that can support a growing, distributed team operating across dozens of simultaneous events
Assign and brief staff ahead of each activation; manage performance in the field and provide structured post-event feedback
Build a culture of high performance within the field team, developing people who grow into repeat contributors and future leaders
Serve as a credible, senior voice in client success conversations related to staffing, on-ground delivery, and operational capability
Contribute directly to sales and business development conversations, helping articulate BreakAway Data's operational model as a competitive differentiator
Identify opportunities to expand our field operations offering into new sports, leagues, markets, and use cases
Provide regular operational reporting to leadership, with a strategic lens on what the data is telling us about where to invest next
Based in Los Angeles, with the ability and willingness to travel regionally and nationally for events
An experienced operator who has managed logistics, people, or events at scale
A strategic thinker who doesn't just fix what's broken but designs systems that don't break in the first place
A strong communicator who can hold a room with clients, lead a team of interns in the field, and influence internal decision-making with data and clear thinking
Highly organised and detail-oriented, with a track record of keeping complex, high-volume programs on track
Self-directed and proactive; you identify what needs building before anyone has to ask
Energised by ambiguity and the challenge of creating structure where none yet exists
Curious about technology and how it can make field operations smarter, faster, and more scalable
Experience in sports operations, event management, or a similar field-heavy, high-volume role
Background in building and managing teams, with a track record of developing talent over time
Exposure to computer vision, data collection technology, or sports analytics products
Familiarity with flag football, American football, or data-driven sports environments
Experience supporting or contributing to sales, partnerships, or business development
If you're excited about building the operational backbone of a company shaping the future of sports analytics, we'd love to hear from you.
