Senior Structural Analysis Engineer, Loads and Dynamics
Skills
- Deep understanding of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and material properties
- Proficiency in FEA workflows for linear, nonlinear, and buckling analyses (ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN)
- Experience building and organizing FEMs and performing model validation
- Structural test experience including instrumentation, data acquisition, and post-processing
- CAD proficiency (NX, SolidWorks) for geometry and model prep
- Scripting and analysis automation using Matlab or Python
- Strong technical writing and ability to produce clear analysis reports
- Ability to work autonomously and define scope on ill-defined problems
Responsibilities
- Perform static and dynamic structural analyses for sea, ground, air, and space systems using hand calculations, scripts, and detailed FEA.
- Create, organize, and own global- and subsystem-level FEMs and solution setups.
- Collaborate with hardware and design engineers to translate analytical results into robust hardware decisions.
- Plan, instrument, and support structural validation tests (static, buckling, cyclic), including sensor selection and data acquisition.
- Correlate test data to analytical models and refine models based on experimental results.
- Document analysis approach, assumptions, and results in clear technical reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ensure designs meet customer requirements, applicable industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Stay current with advances in analysis methods, materials, and industry standards and promote best practices.
Education
- BS in engineering or applied physics with a focus in structures (required)
- MS or higher in engineering or applied physics with structures focus (preferred)
