The Department of Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for an Assistant Technical Director and Performance Services Event Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scenic construction and scene shop management, as well as knowledge of performing arts lighting and sound technologies.
This position, under the supervision of the Technical Director, supports the coordination and execution of technical production operations for performances and events within the Center for the Arts, ensuring the efficient implementation of production requirements across multiple performance areas. will coordinate technical and production details as required for productions and other activities in the Center for the Arts. Responsibilities include assisting with production planning, verifying technical requirements are met, and supporting the timely and effective execution of performances within established safety standards, schedules, and available resources. Opportunities to teach and design may be available depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit and paid leave eligible position with a salary of $60,000 per year.
Assist the Technical Director of the Center for the Arts in coordination and execution of production and operational activities supporting all events within the facility.
Supervise and assist the setup, operation, and technical requirements for academic music and theatre classes, rehearsals, performances, recitals, juries and any other performing arts events held within the Center for the Arts, supporting efficient and timely execution of production requirements.
Manage, build and assemble scenic elements for each academic theatre production as well as the summer musical production; transport, load-in, and strike scenic elements into and out of the performance spaces, aligned with production schedules and available resources.
Assist with rigging any hung elements to safety standards and the installation and focus of lighting/sound/video elements as needed, in accordance with production specifications and safety standards.
Assist in the hiring, supervising, scheduling, and training of student production assistants on all production-related activities and shop safety guidelines and procedures, contributing to a coordinated and well-functioning production team.
Conduct and maintain inventory of production equipment and inform Technical Director of supplies that are needed to support production budgeting and resource planning.
Maintain and organize storage and performance areas within the Center for the Arts, and oversee the maintenance and repair of technical equipment.
Meet with various department leads to discuss project improvement.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in theatre production.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and train student staff.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively with various departments.
Experience in scenery construction, stage lighting, sound reinforcement and mixing, and rigging for theatre and music events.
Familiarity with lighting, sound, and video equipment, as well as experience in using computer-aided drafting software (Vectorworks preferred).
