Job Description:

CNBC is seeking a multi-platform Tech Editor to help lead and shape our coverage of the technology industry across platforms. This editor will work closely with reporters, digital teams, video producers and television editors to deliver fast, authoritative coverage of one of the most important sectors in business.

The Tech Editor will be a strong editor of words and ideas, helping reporters sharpen stories, develop distinctive angles and produce coverage that stands out in a crowded tech news landscape. The role requires sharp news judgment and the ability to balance breaking news with ambitious enterprise reporting on the companies, people and trends shaping the industry.

This editor should thrive in a collaborative newsroom and be able to identify opportunities to tell stories across formats — bringing together reporting, video, graphics and television segments to create compelling coverage for CNBC’s audience.

The ideal candidate is a strong generator of story ideas and an experienced newsroom leader who can manage reporters, set priorities and maintain high editorial standards in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and oversee technology coverage across CNBC’s platforms, working closely with reporters, digital teams, video producers and television editors.
  • Manage and develop reporters, helping them sharpen story angles, strengthen reporting and produce distinctive journalism.
  • Balance breaking news with enterprise reporting on the companies, people and trends shaping the tech industry.
  • Identify opportunities to tell stories across formats, combining reporting with video, graphics and television segments.
  • Generate original story ideas and guide coverage that helps CNBC stand out in a competitive tech news landscape.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $160,000-$190,000.

Additional Requirements: Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through careers.versantmedia.com to be considered. Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience editing business, technology or financial news in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Strong editing and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to elevate reporting and develop compelling story angles.
  • Experience managing reporters and collaborating across editorial teams.
  • Proven ability to juggle breaking news with longer-term enterprise reporting.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to prioritize coverage under tight deadlines.

Desired Characteristics

  • Deep knowledge of the technology sector, including major companies, trends and industry leaders.
  • Experience working across multiple platforms, including digital, video and television.
  • Strong generator of original story ideas and coverage initiatives.
  • Ability to identify visually compelling ways to tell stories using graphics, video or other formats.
