Director, R&D

Tactacam is a leading innovator in outdoor and action camera technology with over one million active customers. We are seeking a seasoned, strategic technical leader to drive complex product development from concept through mass production, with deep expertise in plastics, DFM, and high-volume consumer electronics manufacturing.

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of plastics, injection molding, 2-shot and insert molding
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) expertise
  • Experience with multi-cavity tool design and molding defect mitigation
  • High-volume production ramp experience (50k+ units/month)
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or Creo)
  • Experience with PLM systems and engineering change processes
  • Familiarity with FMEA, GD&T, and tolerance stack analysis
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Willingness and ability to travel to offshore manufacturing sites

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and direction across multiple concurrent product development programs
  • Lead design reviews, tolerance analysis, FMEA, risk assessments, and validation planning
  • Manage development from concept through EVT/DVT/PVT and production ramp-up
  • Optimize designs for cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Partner with global JDM/ODM manufacturers on design intent, tooling strategy, and production readiness
  • Review and approve tooling designs, mold flow analysis, and first article inspections
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions during validation and production
  • Ensure timely release of engineering documentation and maintain PLM records
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent and foster engineering rigor and accountability

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related engineering field
  • Master's degree in engineering or related field preferred
