Let’s Build the Future of Learning

Join us to design and deliver AI-powered learning tools that scale across the world and unlock human potential.

About the Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take ownership of key systems powering Quizlet’s identity, messaging, and trust infrastructure. You’ll design and implement scalable authentication, consent, and compliance solutions that ensure our millions of learners can connect safely and confidently. You’ll collaborate closely across engineering, security, and product to embed privacy and reliability into our platform.

We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and deliver backend services for authentication and account lifecycle management.
  • Scale consent and messaging systems to meet new product and regulatory needs.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance reliability, observability, and performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with security, legal, and marketing teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience building and operating production systems
  • Strong experience with one or more of Node.js, Go, Python, or TypeScript
  • Solid background in distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data pipelines
  • Experience designing and implementing reliable, observable, and maintainable systems, with a focus on safe failure modes
  • Working knowledge of OAuth2, SSO, MFA, and platform security best practices
  • Familiarity with privacy frameworks and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, COPPA)
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortem-driven improvements
  • Proven ability to deliver complex features end-to-end, from design through production rollout
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance
  • 20 vacation days that we expect you to take!
  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% employee and 75% dependent PPO, Dental, VSP Choice)
  • Employer-sponsored 401(k) plan with company match
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning and other resources to support professional growth
