The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a strong and experienced leader to serve as the Food Service Manager at Columbia River Correctional Institution (CRCI).

About the Job – Your Role

In this role you will be responsible for directing and managing the food services program to ensure high-quality, efficient service while operating within established budgetary constraints.

You will provide direct supervision over all assigned food service staff, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and supporting training and development.

You will oversee day-to-day food service operations, ensure compliance with applicable food safety, sanitation, and agency requirements, and coordinate staffing and workflow to meet operational needs.

You are responsible for authorizing and monitoring all program-related purchases, managing inventory and expenditures, and ensuring resources are used effectively to support consistent and reliable food service delivery while aligning with operational and fiscal goals.

This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience;

OR

two (2) years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Requested Skills

  • Experience managing food service operations in a large-scale or institutional setting.
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

This position works inside a secure adult correctional prison and may encounter angry, hostile, or abusive Adults in Custody which could result in personal physical injury, death, or becoming a hostage. Inherent custodial duties include the responsibility for handling Adults in Custody incidents in the immediate work area. The employee is responsible to prevent escapes from confinement by proper control of keys, tools, equipment, and contraband and to document occurring unusual incidents.

This position is subject to call back to the prison in the event of an emergency or work stoppage and is subject to assignment in any position in the institution.

This position is always subject to high noise level, extreme variations in temperatures, wet and slippery floors.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

About the Process – What to Expect

  • The hiring manager will review your application and schedule interviews.
  • Interview will be held with a panel of stakeholders who have completed panel assessment training. Scores will be determined based on predetermined questions and scoring guides. Preferences points will be applied in compliance with relevant laws and bargaining agreements. There may be multiple rounds of interviews.
  • Final candidates will have a background check, PREA check, and reference checks.

Requirements for Employment

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
