Learn more about our flexible approach to where we work.

Overview

Instacart’s Technical Accounting, Revenue, and External Reporting team partners across the business to ensure our diverse revenue streams are recognized accurately, on time, and in alignment with ASC 606. We operate at the intersection of product, sales, legal, finance, and systems to support the company’s marketplace, advertising, subscription, and enterprise offerings.

We are seeking a Technical Revenue Accounting Manager to own complex revenue topics, advise on deal structures and new product launches, and drive an efficient, well-controlled revenue close. You will be a key partner to Accounting, Finance, Legal, Tax, Business Development, Sales, and FinSys, and work closely with our external auditors and SOX advisors. This role is a high-visibility opportunity to influence policy and process beyond core accounting while working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

You’ll join a lean, collaborative team where you will have clear ownership, direct impact, and the opportunity to build for scale. If you thrive on solving complex problems, rolling up your sleeves, and partnering cross-functionally to get things right the first time, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Job

  • Serve as the revenue subject matter expert for multiple revenue streams (e.g., marketplace, advertising, subscriptions, and enterprise), including ASC 606 assessments for principal vs. agent, variable consideration, consideration payable to customers, and contract modifications.
  • Partner with Sales, Business Development, Legal, and Product as the accounting voice in contract review and deal structuring; draft clear, well-supported technical memos and policy documentation.
  • Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close, including journal entries, reconciliations, analytics/flux reviews, and disclosures, while operating an effective SOX control environment.
  • Lead and continuously improve key revenue processes and controls; coordinate audit and SOX requests, manage PBC deliverables, and drive timely resolution of issues with external auditors.
  • Collaborate with FinSys and Data teams to enhance revenue systems, tooling, and data quality (requirements, UAT, and rollouts) to support automation, scale, and accuracy.
  • Support new product and pricing initiatives by translating business requirements into compliant accounting outcomes; create training, FAQs, and guidance for cross-functional partners.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of revenue accounting and/or audit experience with significant ASC 606 exposure at a public company or public accounting firm.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent with a strong accounting concentration).
  • Hands-on experience owning monthly revenue close for multiple revenue streams, including journal entries, reconciliations, analytics, and disclosure support.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting complex customer contracts and drafting technical accounting memos and conclusions.
  • Experience operating SOX 404 revenue controls and supporting external financial statement audits; advanced Excel skills and proficiency with an ERP system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA.
  • Background in Big 4/public accounting and/or high-growth technology, e-commerce, or marketplace environments.
  • Experience with advertising and subscription revenue models, principal vs. agent assessments, and consideration payable to customers.
  • Track record partnering with Sales, Legal, and Deal Desk to operationalize revenue policies and enable scalable contracting processes.
  • Experience with revenue automation tools and reporting/controls platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Workiva, and similar), and comfort analyzing large datasets or using SQL/BI tools.
