Skills
- 4+ years professional software engineering experience
- Production experience building and maintaining web applications
- Professional experience with Ruby on Rails (with Sorbet), PostgreSQL, and AWS
- Strong API and database design skills and opinions
- Familiarity with deployment, migrations, configuration, and provisioning
- Experience with automated testing and maintaining test environments
- Experience with operational concerns including on-call and incident response
- Good communication, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration skills
- Experience applying LLMs to engineering or product workflows (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to build features and improvements
- Extend and maintain backend APIs and services
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries; interface directly with the database cluster
- Improve and expand automated testing and quality practices
- Address architecture, security, anti-fraud, performance, scalability, personalization, optimization and payments challenges
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team processes and standards
- Mentor and sponsor other engineers; provide technical guidance
- Coordinate and communicate with cross-functional technical and product teams
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response
- Leverage LLMs where appropriate to improve product and engineering workflows
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
- Equivalent practical experience and strong portfolio of production systems accepted
