  • Collaborate with the County Judge, Chief of Staff, and other members of the communications team to develop key communications strategies.

  • Responsible for developing strategic external communications and public relations programs to support the County Judge’s Office.

  • In charge of organizing and implementing public relations campaigns aimed at enhancing and preserving the county judge’s reputation.

  • Develops relationships and collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders to execute strategic multimodal communication plans that promote and inform countywide messaging of the County Judge’s Office programs, accomplishments, and perspectives on relevant issues that pertain to Fort Bend County.

  • Supports communications team, leadership team and community outreach staff to inform and engage the public on County Judge’s positions and initiatives.

  • Assists communications personnel in directing communications content from production to distribution.

  • Ensures there is a thorough communications plan for major announcements.

  • In collaboration with FBC IT this position would manage the department websites In collaboration conjunction with FBC IT this position would oversee the department website and create print and web content, including but not limited to brochures and newsletters.

  • Assist with Managing the Office of the County Judge social media platforms.

  • Responds to specific requests for information from individuals, organizations, and the media.

  • Represents the County Judge at numerous local, regional and state events and functions.

  • Maintains communication with other county departments and regional agencies regarding budget and financial matters, capital projects, special studies, legislation and constituent inquiries in support of the County Judge.

  • Provides expert testimony on county matters to legislative committees.

  • Reviews and responds to citizen complaints and other public inquiries submitted to the County Judge.

  • Researches and analyzes underlying facts, public opinion and other relevant data relating to upcoming and current issues impacting Fort Bend County and recommends options for action by the County Judge.

  • Impacts Fort Bend County and its relationship with a diversified external environment in a favorable way by using advanced professional communication skills.

  • Provides support to staff members within the County Judge’s office as needed.

  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, or related field and two (2) years of experience directing a major program area; OR five (5) years of experience in management in a public agency or private organization; OR any equivalent combination of education or experience.

  • 2 to 5 years job related experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, department and elected officials.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.

  • Basic supervision principles; relationships between local, state and federal governments, public interest groups and private enterprise; the principles of public administration, organization, and management; methods of performing complex administrative, organizational and procedural analyses; methods and procedures of public finance and budgeting; detailed organizational and functional structure of County government; principles of long-range financial planning and financing methods and practices of local governments; local, state and federal laws, regulations and procedures affecting functions of the County; contract management; computer applications.

  • Supervise and/or direct the work; independently research, analyze and make effective recommendations on administrative, management, budgetary and fiscal practices, procedures and problems; prepare, negotiate and administer contracts; research, compile and analyze statistical and other complex data; write complex reports in a logical, comprehensive, concise manner; prioritize workload efficiently, without direct instruction, to meet deadlines under changing conditions; exercise initiative; facilitate, coordinate and negotiate between staff members of different County and non-County departments and offices; acquire subject matter expertise in program specific projects; initiate and develop efficient, cost-effective policies; prepare reports and present ideas orally and in writing; win and maintain confidence and cooperation of others and establish and maintain effective relationships on projects.

  • Thorough knowledge of Fort Bend County business and government.
